Fascia boards are installed in segments. The seams should be lined up near the rafters, which should help protect them against water damage. There are a number of issues that your fascia boards can experience which can be easily repaired. If you notice that paint is peeling from your fascia boards but that the wood remains in good shape, then simply sand the boards and repaint them. Instead, when putting  in new fascia boards, use 8 or 10 penny galvanized finishing nails. Apply wood filler to any cracks at the corners and seams and then sand the boards down.
