If you can feel a draft coming in through your windows, then there’s a good chance you’ll need to get replacement windows in Kansas City. A draft means that there are leaks in your window that are resulting in outside air leaking in and indoor air leaking out. Not only does this make your home much more uncomfortable, it also results in a less energy efficient home. The amount of energy you’re losing can have a big impact on your utility bills. The following are a few temporary fixes for drafty windows that you can use until you are able to replace them:

  • Use your curtains – Hang up curtains if you don’t use them already and keep them closed in order to prevent air from leaking in or escaping out. During the winters, you can save as much as 10 percent off your heating bill by simply closing your windows at night. To make your curtains perform even better as temporary insulation, use velcro tape to tape the outside edges of your curtain to the walls and the inside edges to each other.
  • Use interior inserts – If you don’t have curtains, you may want to use interior inserts, which are often custom-fit acrylic panes, can simply be pressed into place on the inside of your windows to help eliminate the draft. These inserts have silicone tubing around the edges that help to create an airtight seal. According to data collected in recent studies, inserts can help reduce your heating and air-conditioning costs by as much as 20 percent.
