Kansas City Renaissance Festival

Weekends, September 3-October 16

For seven weekends in a row, this legendary fall festival escorts visitors back to 16th century England. Now in its 40th year, the festival features jousting, fencing, archery, music, magic, comedy, and many surprises. Every weekend reflects a different theme, like Shamrocks & Shenanigans, the pet-friendly Ales & Tails, Witches & Wizards, and the Buccaneer Beer Fest.

Invitational Youth Rodeo

September 20-23

Watch tomorrow’s rodeo stars compete in this annual event, which draws competitors from all over the Midwest, vying for $73,000 in prize money. The best of the best compete in bull riding, bareback riding, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, and much more.

The 85th Annual Plaza Art Fair

September 23-25

Nine city blocks around the Country Club Plaza area feature the work of 240 artists in this nationally ranked art event. The venue includes three stages with live music performances and 25 restaurants participating with booths.

Kansas City Zoo Run: Run for the Gorillas

September 24

This time, the Kansas City Zoo’s animals are the spectators! Run, jog, or walk through the Kansas City Zoo—through Africa, Australia, and even the Polar Bear Passage. Choose from a one- or four-mile course. Families and strollers are welcome!

5th Annual Harvest Moon American Indian Festival

October 1

Experience true American heritage in this celebration of Native American culture. Enjoy music and dance, learn the history of the Osage Trail, and celebrate the gift of life that comes with welcoming Harvest Time.

2016 World Series of Barbecue

October 26-30

More than 600 teams take part in the world’s largest barbecue competition, which has moved to the Kansas Speedway to accommodate for than 50,000 hungry visitors. Sauces come from 36 states and 3 countries, spanning 5 categories.
