Holiday Lighting Ceremonies in Kansas City 2017

Nov 21, 2017

The holidays are here! By now, the turkey is probably already purchased, your guest room is already booked, and you may have already put up the tree. The holiday season is exciting not just for the family but for the whole community. In the next few weeks, there are plenty of opportunities to get out and share some of that cheer with your neighbors, particularly in one of the many lighting ceremonies going on in the area. Here are some of the events you won’t want to miss:

Christmas in the Sky

Longview Lake Beach, Longview Lake Park
November 22, 5:30-8:30pm
Come by Longview Lake Park this Wednesday for a light-filled musical spectacular to get us all excited for Christmas. Performers from Monica’s School of Dance will take the stage as the main source of entertainment before the Holiday Fireworks Show begins, set against the best holiday tunes provided by 99.7 The Point. Bring the kids, because we hear Santa will be making a special appearance!

Holiday Lights on Farmstead Lane

13800 Switzer Road, Overland Park, KS
November 23, 5pm
If you have any time this Thanksgiving, Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead will turn on their Christmas lights at 5pm. There’s no ceremony, so if you don’t get a chance to see them on Thursday, drive by the entrance to the Farmstead the next day. Turn on your favorite Christmas music while you’re snuggled up in your car taking in the display to help set the mood.

Lee’s Summit Magic Tree

10201 View High Dr, Kansas City, MO
November 23
Also without ceremony, Lee’s Summit Magic Tree will be lit and open to the public on Thanksgiving. The tree will stay lit through January 6th. This landmark tree is lit each year by Lee’s Summit Social Services who will be taking donations in the form of canned food this season for families in need.

Christmas Begins at Crown Center

Crown Center Shops, 2450 Grand Blvd., Kansas City
November 24, 5:30-6:30pm
The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 5:30 with a 100-foot-tall Christmas tree. After Christmas, the tree’s wood will be used to make ornaments which will be sold for the benefit of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund.

Santa Claus will make an appearance at Crown Center earlier in the day on November 24th (around 10-11am), and this time he’s here to stay through Christmas Eve (after which point, he’ll be a little busy, of course!).

Festival of Lights

Powell Gardens, 1609 N.W. U.S. Highway 50, Kingsville, MO
December 1 – January 7
As December actually arrives, so does the Festival of Lights at Powell Gardens. Designed by the Powell Gardens Horticultural Staff, this lighting display makes use of the botanical beauties on hand. It’s a breathtaking display, and with any snow, it will turn into a true winter wonderland.

Christmas on the Harrisonville Square and Lighting

Harrisonville Square in Harrisonville, MO
December 9, 4-6pm
This ceremony has it all. Tree lighting? Check. Christmas pageant? Check. Still need a Christmas tree? They have you covered with an annual tree auction. Warm bowl of chilli? Enjoy a chili supper towards the end of the night. If you live in Kansas City limits, Harrisonville might be a bit of a trip for you, but the ceremony will certainly be worth it.

"A portion of our 32+ year old siding was blown off during recent windy days. We really appreciate how friendly and quickly this company came out and replaced the section that was destroyed.”

- MaryLou B.
Johnson County Siding & Window Co.
"32 years ago this company installed siding on my house and it still looks great! Needed a small repair and with a phone call and a quick response repair was done. Thanks again for a job well done!”

- Sandy R.
Johnson County Siding & Window Co.
"The lap siding on the front of our home was failing so we decided to replace it all with James Hardie fiber cement siding. We knew this would be a job that needed to be handled correctly. We were apprehensive about hiring someone to handle what we knew would be a huge undertaking and were very pleased with the way this company performed. We would definitely recommend them.”
