Preparing for Replacement Doors in Mission Hills

As Your Door Replacement Installation Nears, Make Sure Your Home’s Ready

There are many advantages to having a professional contractor install your replacement doors: primarily, you don’t have to worry about installing them yourself. With an expert installation crew, the doors will be replaced quickly and easily, and the area will be cleaned before they leave. The crew will ensure that the work is done as comfortably as possible for everyone in the home, so you can enjoy your new doors without all the hassle. However, it’s still a good idea to know what to expect from your door replacement and how you can prepare to make the day easier for both the installation crew and yourself.

Stay In Touch With the Installation Crew

Part of this rests on the installation crew. Contractors watch the weather like a hawk and if there’s any chance that inclement weather could delay the project, they’ll let you know at least a day before work is set to start. But you should also keep your installation crew posted if anything changes on your part. If you need to reschedule, let them know as soon as possible. Will you have pets or children at home? Do you want to keep your old doors? Do you plan to leave the house for the time the work is being done? Keep your door contractor posted.

Even if you plan to be out of the house to avoid the work, meet with the foreman, project manager, or owner who arrives on the site the day of the installation and leave a phone number in case they need to reach you.

Make Room

Your installation crew will need room to work, so before they arrive, make sure to clear several feet of space away from any doors that need to be replaced. If you’re having entry doors replaced, clear space outside as well as inside. A good installation crew will make as little mess as possible, but dust is inevitable, so you may want to cover any electronics or valuables nearby with plastic to protect them during the installation. Finally, make sure there’s plenty of room in the driveway or curb for the installation truck to park.

Keep Pets (and Sometimes People) Out of the Way

If you have any pets, make sure to keep them out of the way with the use of a pet gate or by shutting them in a room where work isn’t being done. Even if you have well-behaved pets, they’re likely to be scared by all the noises and commotion from the installation. If you don’t want to shut them up for the duration, consider sending them to a friend’s house or taking dogs to the dog park for the day. Additionally, if you have small children at home, keep an eye on them and make sure they give all the construction work a wide berth.

Some homeowners prefer to leave the house during the construction and come home when the work is done. That’s perfectly fine and often preferable to hovering over the construction crew. Again, however, make sure that you have your phone on you and that your crew has your number, so they can reach you if necessary.
